Here’s what we’ve been following:
- A lot of blogs and news sites have been picking up Planned Parenthood’s Superbowl Response Ad, including Slate’s XX blog, RH Reality Check, Jezebel, local news site DNAinfo, Feministe, Salon’s blog Broadsheet, the blog Feministing, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow Show, and The New York Times.
- Local paper The Villager did a story about protesters outside one of PPNYC’s clinics.
- And speaking of the Super Bowl, the Focus on the Family ad aired this weekend during Superbowl…and didn’t mention abortion.
- The Nation has an interesting take on the overall nature of Superbowl ads’ attitudes towards women.
- and The NY Times editorial board summarizes the whole ad debacle.
- Although Saints Linebacker Scott Fujita will always remain a feminist hero.
- Maureen Dowd had an interesting column this weekend about Harold Ford, who is planning on challenging Senator Gillibrand.
- Harold Ford, by the way, is not all that pro-choice.
- A study was released last week on an abstinence education program.
- Although feminist blogger Jill Filipovic points out that the program that was studied is a far cry from what we traditionally think of as abstinence-only.
- And the NY Times editorial board followed suit.
- As did Cecile Richards, with a letter to the editor in the New York Times refuting abstinence-only education.
- The Department of Defense has approved use of Emergency Contraception for servicewomen serving overseas.
- Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s Dr. Cullins has a piece about HPV vaccines for men and boys.
There is a new Emergency Contraception pill on the market.
That’s all we’ve got. What have you been reading?
