more about "Christian Side Hug", posted with vodpod
This amazing video, about the “Christian Side Hug” is an amazing example of what happens when abstinence-only proponents begin to create their own version of hip hop culture. According to the blog The Sexist at the Washington City Paper:
- The Christian Side-Hug rap comes courtesy of the Encounter Generation Conference, an annual Christian youth gathering which hopes to “bring the power, authenticity, and relevance of Jesus Christ to their culture.”
I’m taking votes on whether or not the pun in the chorus “I’m a rough rider filled with Christ love” is intentional or unintentional. For their movement’s sake, I’m hoping it’s intentional….

Why is the “Christian side hug” rapped about over the Darth Vader theme?
You can see by the comments on Amanda Hess’ article that the “side hug” is a humorous meme in Christian circles (though it often is enforced at camps and conferences, such as the one this funny video was made for).
Christians are not the only ones with policies on public affection and touching among youth. Some schools enact similar policies. Liability issues demand it.
Trust me, the concept is funnier if you’re a Christian! So don’t take things so seriously. It’s meant to seem outrageous. And read the SCL blog, it’s hilarious!
