Wow. This weekend was a doozy. Here’s what you should be reading this week:
- So, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that the Stupak-Pitts Amendment, severely restricting abortion coverage in health care, passed a little before midnight on Saturday. Cecile Richards is on Hardball with Chris Mathews TONIGHT to talk about the bill, but otherwise the best pieces we’ve found so far are:
- Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s Policy expert Laurie Rubiner was on the Brian Lehrer show this morning, giving a great run-down of what the amendment means and where we go from here.
- Think Progress has a great run-down on RH Reality Check of what exactly the Stupak-Pitts means for women.
- The New York Times has some great pieces both analyzing the vote and explaining the influence Roman Catholic Bishops had on the amendment’s passage.
- Ezra Klein had a great piece over the weekend explaining why the Stupak-Pitts amendment was such a very bad idea.
- RH Reality Check details which Democratic Representatives voted for the amendment, plus they have Lois Capp’s statement against the amendment.
- and Journalist Sarah Jaffee has a fantastic opinion piece about the Stupak-Pitts amendment.
- Related: you can take action against the Stupak-Pitts amendment here.
- On a slightly lighter note, Time Out NY Kids has a fantastic issue out on how to talk to your kids about sex, something that makes me proud to be a New Yorker. PPNYC is featured in the Big Talk article as well as the resources section.
- Jezebel.com has a fantastic write-up of our Body Politic Voices on Feminism event last week.
- Despite Stupak, USA Today, The LA Times, and Kathleen Kathleen Kennedy Townsend writing for Newsweek all have strong editorials about abortion in health care reform.
- Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s Dr. Vanessa Cullins is featured in a webcast on AOL’s Black Voices.
That’s all we’ve got for now, but share what you’ve been reading below.
